The Inspection of Traffic and Transport/Shipping has joined the Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (CMOU) as a full fledged member during the Annual Caribbean Port State Control Committee (CPSCC) meeting on July 26th 2011.
What is the Cmou
The Caribbean memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (CMOU) is collaboration between countries that control which ships in the Caribbean region meet security and environmental regulations of the area.
Audit
Before becoming a member an audit must first take place. This audit carried out by representatives of CMOU, has resulted in a positive advice to the annual meeting on June 12th 2011.
Full fledged membership
The membership was on the agenda of July 26th accompanied by aforementioned positive advice. As a result of this The Netherlands has become the 15th full fledged member. It can now fully cooperate with other countries within the region. The other 14 full members are: Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, The Bahamas, The Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Christopher & Nevis, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
Inspections
The inspectors of the Dutch Shipping Inspection Dutch Caribbean (NSI-CN) team, working on Saba, Statia and Bonaire now also have access to the local database. Inspections carried out by them will also be included in this database so that within the region the so-called sub standard ships can be tracked better.
