WILLEMSTAD–This year marks 40 years since the first women were allowed to join the uniformed and armed services of the now Netherlands Antilles and for this reason Foundation "Muhé Uniformá, Armá" MUA has organized a series of activities to be held in Curaçao in September
The highlight of the celebration is the first International Women in Law Enforcement Conference, themed Reach Stairs to Higher Excellence or Reach SHE, on September 5-8 in the Renaissance Curaçao Resort.
Women in law enforcement from the Dutch Caribbean islands and from 17 Caribbean member country of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) are invited by MUA to join the conference to evaluate the past four decades and make projections for the future.
Several international speakers will deal with empower and excellence for all women in the law enforcement agencies. Three of the US based speakers are award winner/Building Blocks Global Consultancy Sonia Kook, MSc, founder and director of the National Center for Women and Policing (NCWP) and Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) Margaret Moore and President of Mpowerment Works Marisa Rivera-Albert.
These speakers will work with local trainers and workshop leaders Ethlyn Hanley, Yvonne Isidora-Gumbs (Jaycees senator), Patricia Varlack and Caroline PIE of Regio Caribisch Nederland (RCN) and community representative Franklyn Girigorie.
MUA’s goal is to support women in law enforcement as they carried out their duties.
"On the journey of emancipation several goals are met, but there are all still those steps to be paved so that those women who have the capacity also can reach for higher in their respective organizations," according to MUA.
