Saba Health Care Foundation honors first baby

On Thursday morning Head nurse of the A. M. Edward’s Medical Center Ms. Naomi Wilson together with Mrs. Joyce Smith from the Baby Clinic section of the Youth And Family Office on Saba bestowed the honors on Shyann Aliana Joan Mathew. Seeing that baby Shyann was the first baby to be born on the island for 2011 the Saba Health Care Foundation found it fitting to present the proud mother and baby with a basket and also with a cheque to the tune of US$ 100.00 in order for the mother to open a savings account at the Windward Islands Bank Ltd. on Saba.

It has always been a custom for the first baby that was born on the island to receive a gift from the Government of Saba but seeing that the hospital no longer falls under the jurisdiction of the Island Government the foundation found it fitting to continue with this tradition.

Little Shyann Mathew is the first baby to be born on Saba on Friday of last week and weighed in at 6.3 pounds. As was mentioned previously there has been many other children born to Saba parents but those children were all born on the island of St. Maarten. Shyann is also the first baby to be born on the island after the island received its new status as a public entity.
