GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (GIS) – According to the Executive Director of the Tallahassee-Sint Maarten Foundation (TLH-SXMF) Arthur Lugisse, Sint Maarten’s steel pan master, Isidore York "Mighty Dow" will be presented with his award by Honourable Minister of Culture Rhoda Arrindell on behalf of TLH-SXMF.
"Let our culture be identified through the eyes and performance of one of our own. He is one of the best in steel pan and entertainment," Arthur Lugisse told the Government Information Service (GIS) on Thursday.
The award presentation is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 29 at Cheri’s Café, Maho Reef at 10.00pm.
Mighty Dow was also presented the Ambassadors Award in 1988 at the Sint Maarten first Musician Awards organized by Control and Arthur Lugisse.
Lugisse pointed out that Sint Maarten needs to promote its cultural sector more especially within the context of the sister-city agreement that exist between the capital city of Florida, Tallahassee and Sint Maarten.
A trip has been organized later this year to bring Dow’s group which would include Brother Neville York and Father Chester York up to Tallahassee.
"Our steel pan talent needs to be part of our culture export product. There are many possibilities and the honourable Minster of Culture Rhoda Arrindell has showed much interest in a cultural exchange with FAMU University," Lugisse said on Thursday.
