The Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds in Antigua will be the venue for the first round of Caribbean Twenty2011 which will be held from January 9th to the 24th.

The West Indies Cricket Board announced that the Board of Directors approved the recommendations of the Bid Review Committee for hosting of Caribbean Twenty20 2011.

Three countries submitted bids: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.

The venues for Caribbean Twenty20 2012 will be announced later.

The Bid Review Committee assessed, based on seven clearly outlined criteria and a rigidly applied grading scheme, that Barbados’ bid was the leading one, followed by Antigua and then Trinidad.

The Barbados Cricket Association bid was also enhanced by a formal commitment from the Government of Barbados to assist the WICB in marketing the Caribbean Twenty20 leading up to the tournament.

The Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board bid included stipulations for sharing of the gate revenues between the WICB and the TTCB and also required that the WICB pay to the TTCB a substantial management fee for hosting the tournament.

The bids of the Barbados Cricket Association and Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association did not include revenue sharing and management fee stipulations.

Additionally the Kensington Oval is being provided free of any rental costs and Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds attracts a rental fee which was more than 50% less than the rental of the proposed venue in Trinidad – Queen’s Park Oval.

The bids of Antigua and Barbados were also accompanied by ALL the required signed government guarantees – Tax Guarantee, Customs Guarantee and Immigration Guarantee – whereas the TTCB’s bid included only a document indicating that the government was willing to sign the respective guarantees.

Barbados hosted the first round of Caribbean Twenty20 2010 while the second round and the semi final and final were held at the Queen’s Park Oval.

Kensington Oval also successfully hosted the final of Cricket World Cup 2007 and the final of the ICC World Twenty20 earlier this year.
