Mr. Friendly kicks off birthday and St. Maarten’s Day celebrations with Philipsburg Jubilee Library

St. Maarten SuperHost child-friendly mascot, "Mr. Friendly", visited various schools during the week in celebration of St. Maarten’s Day together with the Philipsburg Jubilee Library Bus, encouraging children to read and celebrate our local heritage.

Mr. Friendly is a local born Brown Pelican birthed in the Great Salt Pond on November 11 many years ago. Mr. Friendly is committed to being a positive example, instilling his values in young children and continuing his goal of bringing back the friendly island.

During his library bus tour, Mr. Friendly handed out book markers featuring St. Maarten’s national anthem and a slogan which boasted "Reading is empowering". Children were elated by the friendly surprise and made a promise to celebrate our local culture.

To further celebrate St. Maarten’s day and his birthday, Mr. Friendly also participated in the Philipsburg Jubilee Library parade which was held last Wednesday. During the parade Mr. Friendly handing out gifts to the public while motivating children to be Friendly at all times.
