Two practice counselors, who are employed in the Academy Hotel on behalf of the school governors, have recently received assistance from two students of Fontys College from the Netherlands. By that, the Academy Hotel wants to pay more attention to training and educating students as well as co-workers of the Academy Hotel.
Education and business community literally work together every day in the Academy Hotel with the aim to prepare the student better for a job in the tourism sector. The two students, Linda Vossen and Marjan Berger, are third-year students of the Fontys College of Pedagogical Technology. "They are the first students with a six-month educational apprenticeship at the Academy Hotel Curaçao. With this training, they will become second-degree teachers for the vocational training in the professional field of Horeca, Tourism and Nutrition. With this education, they could not only find employment in the education, but also in the business community as trainer, project leader, manager or product manager. For Vossen and Berger, is an instructive and unique apprenticeship as student on Curaçao to develop teaching material for local students and immediately bring this into practice" according to the management of the Academy Hotel.
For each department of the hotel, the two will be drawing up a training program and develop teaching material so that the students can be inducted in three days’ time. This way, the students will know what they have to do and what is expected from them. The teaching material for the departments reception, housekeeping, restaurant and kitchen will be shaped in practice supported by theory, and visual demonstration. The aim is that the local students will learn better and quicker, adapted to the current requirements of practice. In addition, the department heads of the Academy Hotel will implement the teaching material. This way, the hotel hopes to invest in education.
