On Thursday August 9th 2010 at approximately 04.40 a.m.several police patrols, Police Traffic Department, Paramedics and Fire Department were directed to Rhine road in the Mullet bay area for a serious traffic accident whereby several persons were injured.
On the scene the investigating officers encountered a green (SUV) Mitsubishi Lancer with license plate M-3685 lying on its left side. The vehicle in question at the time of the accident was traveling at a very high speed. The driver of the vehicle while making a left turn lost control of the vehicle causing it to hit a light pole, turning over several times and then coming to rest on its left side. At the time the vehicle was turning over the occupants were being thrown out of the vehicle. When the vehicle came to rest on its left side, landing on two of the victims and pinning them to the ground. These victims were a young lady by the name of Geraldine Bliss 17 years old and residing in French Quarter and the young man by the name Jean-Michel McDonna 27 years of age and residing on the A. Th. Illidge road. Both victims died on the scene as a result of the injuries they sustained during the accident. Doctor Douglas who came to the scene pronounced the death of the victims.The investigating officers also discovered that at the time of the accident seven persons were in the vehicle, one of which ran from the scene. The other victims suffered minor bruises and scratches to their body. they were all treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested for further investigation. The Traffic Department along with the Forensic Department are still investigating this case to determine exactly what happened. Condolences go out to the family and friends of the victims on behalf of the police department.
