The Bottom, Saba: All is set for the 3rd celebration of Curacao Flag Day on the Island Territory of Saba. The event which is being organized by the Korsow Krioyo Associashon, headed by Mr. Hensley Martes, as president, will kick of on Saturday, June 26th 2010 with a Domino Tournament which starts at 2.00 p.m. at the Sunny Valley Youth Center in The Bottom.
On Sunday, June 27th 2010 the board of the associashon will be attending mass at the Roman Catholic Church in The Bottom followed by the laying of two wreaths at the gravesites of the late Victor Martir and Andres Kalmez; two nationals of Curacao who spent many years on Saba, passed away and were laid to rest on the island.
On Wednesday, June 30, 2010 the activities continue with a Ballot competition at the Eugenius Johnson Center in Windwardside starting at 7.30 p,m.; the associashon is grateful to have received the cooperation of Ms. June Every in assisting with the organizing of this competition.
Then on Friday, July 2, 2010 (the actual day of the Curacao Flag), a private reception and awards ceremony at Lollipop’s will be held. Some 6 persons will be honored during this event which will end up in a dance party. Here an opportunity will be granted to those persons who have not been able to go out to a good party the chance to enjoy themselves. Saba’s Lt. Governor Mr. Jonathan Johnson will be also addressing the attendees. During the award ceremony the winners of the Domino and Ballot competition will also receive their trophies.
On Saturday, July 3, 2010 the activities continue with a motorcade starting at the Juancho Yrausquin Airport and ending in front of the GEBE Head office on the Samuel Charles Street. Under the leadership of the Saba Drum Band the parade will continue along the Matthew Levenstone Street passing in front of the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home and the A. M. Edward’s Medical Center and then to the Princess Juliana Sports Field. At the sports field there will be an official ceremony and a speech by the Commissioner of Culture of Saba, Mr. Bruce Zagers. Pastor Vernon Liburd will do the invocation and it is expected that a representative of the Government of Curacao will also be on hand to deliver a few words to the many Curacao nationals and the people of Saba. This year the associashon has decided to do things differently and they will be giving a treat to the youth and senior citizens of the island. The senior citizens from the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home will be given a lunch catered for by Saba Groove. All other senior citizens will enjoy a reduced rate for food which will be sold by Saba Groove at the price of Fls. 10.00.
Saturday evening will be the climax of the week of activities as the Blue, White and Yellow Ball takes place at the Sunny Valley Youth Center with the band "Control" out of St. Maarten and for the very first time one of Curacao’s best artist Boy Thode alongside one that is also well known on the island Mr. Reinier Lijfrock. Accompanying this event also will be Power Sound System International featuring Saba’s own DJ Davio. Tickets for the Blue, White and Yellow Ball Party are on sale from all members of the association at the price of Fls. 10.00; at the gate the price will be US$ 15.00.
The members of the board of the Korsow Krioyo Associashon consist sof President Mr. Hensley Martes, Vice President Willis Lucas, Secretary Mr. Dave Levenstone, Treasurer, Mr. Ewald Sumter, Public Relations Officer and Assistant Treasurer, Mr. Richard Maria and board member Mr. Irvin Riley. The board has been meeting on a weekly basis putting their plans in place and is now ready.
The board members also decided that this year’s celebration is in honor of their former Secretary the late Siegfried Maria who passed away earlier in the year. The purpose of the associashon is to promote the general interest of all persons born on the island of Curacao and residing on the island of Saba and to also promote closer relations between the islands of Curacao and Saba in the broadest sense of the word. It is also to promote cultural, educational, spiritual, economic and social activities between both islands. Persons that have lived on the island of Curacao are welcome to be part of the associashon and are also able to serve on the Board of Directors. Just to name a few locals that that have been able to obtain their education on the island of Curacao include, Senator Will Johnson, Act. Lt. Governor of Saba Mr. Roy Smith, Island Council Member Mr. Carl Buncamper, the Federal Receiver Mrs. Wilma Every, Director of the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home, Ms. Roseta Riley, teacher Miranda Simmons and Police Brigadier Mr. Wingrove Baker and many others.
