WILLEMSTAD — The annual conference of the Latin America and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (Lacnic) was officially opened on Tuesday in the Curaçao World Trade Center.

The conference had actually started on Sunday and will last up to and including Friday. Hosts Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BT&P) and Caribbean Internet Exchange (Car-ix) expect approx. 350 international participants with this Lacnic 2010 Annual Conference.
"It is the first time that Lacnic, who plays a key role in the development of policy and technology for regional internet, has chosen Curaçao as host country", says spokeswoman Gisbelle Tokaay of BT&P. To illustrate Lacnic’s classified and facilitating role in the regional internet-world, she states that this organization is responsible for the management and distribution of all IP-addresses in Latin America and the Caribbean area.

Speakers, amongst whom Cristine Hoepers, José Dominguez and Jordi Palet Martinez will discuss interesting topics such as ‘Ipv6’, ‘Computer Security Incident Response Team’ and ‘ISP Traffic Engineering’. Particularly the speech of José Miguel Guzmán is expected to draw a large crowd, as he is the Technical Program Manager for contents-distribution for Google, the world leader amongst all internet search engines.
Co-host Car-ix – the independent organization without profit motive, established in 2008 and operational in 2009 – will also give a presentation on exchange possibilities between the Caribbean region and South American in the field of internet.
