Chef cruise ship reported missing between Aruba-Cartagena

ORANJESTAD — The Italian chef Angelo Faliva (31) of the American cruise ship Coral Princess of the shipping company Princess Cruises has been reported missing since the evening of Wednesday November 25th. The ship had sailed from Aruba to Cartagena, Columbia on November 25th and 26th.

The Columbian Coastguard had continued its search for Faliva yesterday, but without result. Press agency Associate Press (AP) announced the aforementioned. The search had already been started on Thursday, November 26th at three o’clock in the afternoon after the ship had moored along the coast of Cartagena at ten o’clock in the morning. A helicopter and two vessels had been called in. The commander of the Columbian Coastguard, Javier Sanchez, had indicated to continue the search operation. Meanwhile, various explanations had supposedly been given on where and when the 31-year old chef had last been seen on the cruise ship. According to AP, the spokesperson of Princess Cruises, Julie Benson, who had seen Angelo Faliva on the ship’s deck last week Thursday morning at eight-thirty for the last time, while he had been talking with another crewmember. On the other hand, Faliva’s family states that they had been told that he had unexpectedly left the ship’s kitchen during his shift around quarter past eight on Wednesday evening and had not returned, or been seen since.
Faliva had been reported missing on Thursday and the family had been informed. Moreover, a lifebuoy had also disappeared. The flares of the lifebuoy had been ripped off and had been left on board the ship. "He had certainly not jumped over board. It had not been suicide", Faliva’s sister states before the press. "We think that it had been an accident or a murder." The cruise ship Coral Princess had departed from South Florida on November 23rd and is currently en route to Acapulco, Mexico from Panama. The ship should be mooring at Los Angeles on December 7th, where the FBI is expected to join the investigation. According to the ship’s spokesperson, Faliva’s cabin had meanwhile been sealed and the ship searched. No camera footage had been found of a crewmember being swept overboard.
