Police hotline functional.
The police department is informing the general public, that their "Police Crime Hotline ( Tip-line)" as of November 1st 2009 has become operational. This hotline is open to the general public, 24 hours a day.
The purpose for this hotline is to get the public involved in helping solve the crime situation on the island, by providing the police department with any information that may lead to the solving of any criminal investigation, ongoing criminal activities or for the prevetion of criminal acts that may take place in the future.
The identity of the persons using this hotline will remain unknown. When using the hotline that person will be speaking into a recording.

Tel: 9300. This phone call is completely free of charge and can be reached from any cellular telephone company or by landline.
The Police Department is urging the general public to make good use of this service by getting involved to help solve and surpress crime in Sint Maarten.
Police Immigration Controls
On Friday October 30th in the evening hours, the Zero Tolerance Team assisted by members of the VKS and the Immigration Department conducted controls at several establishments on the island.
In The Dutch Quarter area snack bars were checked with regards to their licenses to operate. In Suckergarden several snack bars and brothels were controlled with regards to their operating licenses and also undocumented persons working at these businesses . Eight persons were brought in to the Immigration Dept. to be checked with regards to their status on the island. Two of these persons were later released after their documents were found to be in order. A fine of Nafls 30.000,- was given to the owner one of these businesses for having illegal persons employed.
Attempted armed robbery
On Friday October 30th, the man with initials J.T. filed an report with the police dept. stating that around 12.20 a.m. while sitting in his car in front of the Seamans Club, on the Umbrella cactus road, he was suddenly attacked by two young man of dark complexion, dressed completely in dark clothing. One of the young men was carrying a double barrel shotgun. While being threatened with this weapon the two culprits tried to rob the victim, but he managed to start his car and drive away. According to an eyewitness a third robber was standing in the dark, however when this robbery failed, all three robbers fled the scene through an opening in the fence. A search in the vicinity by the police was done but no one was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
Suspect arrested
Detectives on Friday October 29th at approximately 08.35 A.M. arrested the suspect with initials D.R.B. for whom an arrest-warrant was issued as a suspect in several recent violent criminal acts. D.R.B. is also possibly the suspect in the shooting incident that took place on Thursday morning October 29th in Sint Peters. The suspect freely turned himself in to authorities and was arrested at his home without incident. The suspect remains in custody for questioning.
Police Traffic Report
The Police traffic Dept. reported that between Thursday October 29th and November 1st 2009 to have handled 10 traffic accidents, 5 of which persons were injured and four of which were "hit and run" accidents. All accidents are under investigation.
On Sunday morning November 1st at approximately 10.20 a.m. a female drive lost control of her vehicle on the Union road in Cole bay hitting an unknown vehicle that was driving in front of her and then colliding with several walls and concrete structures on the side of the road. As a result of this accident one car that was parked on the side of the street was damaged by flying debris. The driver of the car after being checked at the hospital had suffered a fractured left leg. Investigation been done by the Traffic dept.
The Police Traffic Dept. is informing the owners of the following licenseplates which were lost or missing for the taxyear 2009, P-7585, P-3452, M-3357, M-5022 and M-9096 can come to the Philipsburg Police Station (Traffic Dept.) and collect these plates.
