WILLEMSTAD — Goisco Wholesale could have been open, says owner Joël da Silva Gois. "Everything has been submitted to the Lieutenant Governor. All documents are on her desk. We are waiting for her decision in order to open our doors again." According to the owner, his company – which had been closed for more than one week – has ‘possibly incurred a loss of millions’ as it had been closed by order of the authorities.

"I will no longer talk about the past", Da Silva Gois said, avoiding questions on the circumstances of the forced closure last week, whilst he had just planned the ‘grand opening’ of the extension on Monday.
An agreement had been reached for the original building plans, but these had been adjusted afterwards. By his own account, Da Silva Gois had received a verbal agreement for the adjustments so that he could continue the construction without having to apply for a new permit. The authorities had informed him last week that he indeed needed a new permit and that he was guilty of ‘illegal construction activities’ without this new permit. In addition, the existing part of his extended wholesale was to be closed.
"We have not started calculating the loss yet, but I am throwing out goods every day. This loss could run in the millions; I possibly need ten years to eliminate this. Hopefully, the Lieutenant Governor will be as energetic with the authorization of a (re)opening – as she was with the closure", Da Silva Gois said.
"We will not be able to manage this much longer. If this is still going to take awhile, we will have to close the shop and dismiss all 110 employees", he concludes.
