Leak and fault in feeder cable causes power outages; Load shedding possible on Monday; DG#7 Generato

On Sunday, October 18 a leaking head in Generator DG#17 led to a number of districts experiencing a power outage. Cay Bay Power Plant technicians resolved the problem within an hour and most areas were back online.

The residential area of Saunders on Sunday experienced a power outage for an extended period of time due to a fault that developed in the feeder cable to that area. GEBE technicians from the Distribution Department started immediately to locate the problem and by 1.45pm the aforementioned area was back online.

On Saturday, October 17 Generator DG#12 was stopped for planned repairs resulting in a loss of 8MW. The work has not been completed and load shedding is possible on Monday, October 19. Areas to be possibly impacted by load shedding are: 8.00am to 10.00am Lowlands, Simpson Bay, Beacon Hill, Oyster Pond and Belvedere.

10.00am to 12.00pm Cole Bay, Pelican and Saunders.

Generator DG#7 which suffered severe fire damage last year, technicians continue to work on the generator. GEBE technicians were hoping to have the generator online over the weekend; however this did not work out as planned due to some challenges that came about during their work on the engine.

A test run has been rescheduled for Monday, October 19 at 5.00am. A representative of the engine supplier Wartsila, flew in from Puerto Rico over the weekend to oversee the re-commissioning of DG#7.

The generator will be brought online slowly in order to thoroughly check all systems and over a span of hours the engine will be brought up to its maximum output of 5MW.
