WILLEMSTAD — American Airlines will be re-introducing the second daily flight between Miami and Curaçao per November 19th, next. In addition, the negotiations with an American company from a new destination as per next winter season are in the final stages. Vice-chairman Billy Jonckheer of hotel organ Chata expects that Insel Air will also bring tourists through the cooperation with US Air.

The current flight from Miami from American Airlines, which stays overnight at Hato, will remain. The second flight, starting mid next month, departs around 10 AM from Florida to Curaçao and leaves Hato for Florida at about 3 PM. "That second flight implies more than 4000 seats extra per month", Jonckheer calculates.
Jonckheer – who is responsible for aviation with Chata – could not say what the actual contribution from Insel Air to the tourist flights would be, "but it will certainly help," just as the hotel organ also assisted Insel Air in flying to Miami since the end of last year. In this, the local company took over an important part of the local flights to Miami. This created more space for tourists on the American Airlines’ flight, which had substantial seat occupancy.
In order to increase the tourism in the future, the island wants to remain focused on the densely populated northeastern part of the United States. Former Tourism-deputy Eugene Rhuggenaath (PAR) negotiated this with AA-executive Peter Dolara past July. During these negotiations, the deputy advocated for a direct permanent flight from New York.
In the long-term, the intention is directed towards a third flight, or additional flights from another destination, for example a hub with connections to the west of the United States.
