On Wednesday, May 18, the Central Committee of the Island Council met at the Government Administration Building in the Claude Wathey Legislative Hall, to handle a number of important issues, namely, the proposed policy on the preservation of historic trees, the appeal on the issuance of a director’s license and the ongoing developments at GEBE.
Present at the meeting were members of the council: Sarah Wescot-Williams, Theo Heyliger, and Maria Buncamper-Molanus, William Marlin, Frans Richardson, Rudolphe Samuel, and Patrick Illidge. Absent were: P. Leroy de Weever, L. E. Laveist and Hyacinth Richardson.
The meeting was chaired by Acting Chairman of the Central Committee: Theo Heyliger.
On the issue of the appeal for a director’s license, after debate, the issue was forwarded to the Island Council for final decision making. In terms of the policy on Historic Trees, a presentation was supplied by members of ROB and VROM. The policy stipulates a number of procedures that serve to engender respect for the significance of these trees to the island’s cultural and natural heritage.
The final agenda point of the Central Committee meeting was the current issues surrounding GEBE. Members of management, as well as the supervisory board and the shareholding board of the holding foundation were heard separately in order for the council to receive information for all sides concerned in the issue.
