Management, staff and family members on Sunday afternoon paid special tribute to Ms. Olga Every on her 99th birthday
Ms. Olga Every is a resident at the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home in The Bottom. Family and friends and well wishers all gathered at the Home for the Aged to pay special tribute to her on the celebration of her birthday. Ms. Olga as she is called by one and all is the eldest person on the island of Saba at this present time and is a former elementary school teacher on Saba. Also present for the great occasion was her daughter Mrs. Jean van den Berg, who said that she is happy that the Lord has granted her mother the strenght to live to see her 99th birthday. Several members of the Anglican Churches also showed up to pay their special tribute to Ms. Olga as she was a staunch member of the church. Her grand daughter Ms. Laverne Johnson was unable to be present to celebrate the joyous ocasion with her grand mother but did send her best wishes to her. Also in attendance at the ceremony was former teacher Mr. Frank Hassell who worked togehter with her at the Government Public School in The Bottom for many years. Amongst some of the former students of Ms. Olga is former Lt. Governor of Saba, Mr. Sydney Sorton and former Administrator of Saba Mr. Raphael Sorton and many others.
The managment and staff of the Hon. Henry Every Old Age Home organized a small celebration in her honor as she is the eldest resident also at the Home for the Aged. Acting Head of the Home Ms. Kim Withfield said that the managment and staff of the Home is very honored to have Ms. Olga reach the age of 99 years and we want to wish her many more years together with us at the home. Ms. Olga memory is not as good as before, but is still able to recognize certain people.
