SDA Teachers Appreciation Ceremony

On Saturday morning, Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams was a special guest of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Zagersgut, as this church celebrated Teachers Appreciation Day. During this ceremony Sabbath school teachers, SDA teachers and visiting teachers were honored for their work in education on Sint Maarten.

Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams in her congratulatory remarks at the church service recalled the challenges teachers face not only in the schools, but also as individuals, who are also parents and spouses and face the every day responsibilities these relations bring with them.

Quoting US president Abraham Lincoln, the Commissioner reminded the congregation that it is best "to educate the children, so that it is not necessary to educate the adults."

She impressed upon those present to ponder on this phrase and reflect on the young adults in our community. "How well did we educate them as children?"

The Commissioner in recognizing the hard work of those in the field of education, closed with the popular adage: " the progress of any nation is no swifter than the progress made in education" .
