Commissioner Wescot-Williams empathizes with the governments and people of the Caribbean region, stricken by recent hurricanes

Leader of Government Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams, says that her Government and the people of St. Maarten empathize with all those affected by the wrath of the recent storm systems Gustav, Hanna and Ike.

Currently Hurricane Ike is battling Cuba, after it left a path of destruction across the Turks & Caicos Islands and The Bahamas while Gustav and Hanna did the same in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

The loss of life has been most tragic in Haiti where several hundred people are dead after being ravaged by two storm systems.

"We extend our deepest sympathy to those who have lost love ones in the nations that have been ravaged by the storms. And as rebuilding efforts are underway in other island-nations, we wish them a speedy recovery.

"I also encourage our nation to support fundraising efforts to help the victims of Haiti and other nations that have been ravaged by the storms," Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams told the Government Information Service (GIS).
