Barak Obama, an international hopeful

My recent trip to South Africa, organized by Conscious Lyrics Foundation, not only provided me new impressions and insights on race relationship, but more so confirmed the significance and importance of electing Senator Barak Obama to the presidency of the USA.

Initially dazed by the fact that, in the midst of the nations coming together in reaction to the atrocities of World War II, a nation dominated by European powers was able to institute as recent as 1948 an Apartheid regime in South Africa degrading Blacks and Coloreds to less than equal citizenship deprived of basic human rights, I quickly restored myself realizing that this was at a time where the great European ally, the USA, also operated under an Apartheid regime, called racial segregation.

While the world made great strides in combating racism as a result of the aftermaths of slavery and racial segregation, the election of a person of color to what is considered the most powerful function in the world, will however constitute a great leap in restoring value and respect to people of color, reaffirming the equality of all man. A colored face as President of the USA will undoubtedly contribute towards restoring some balance in racial relationships, and eliminate many unjust negative perceptions held about people with a black skin.

Just like Nelson Mandela no longer belongs to South Africa only, Obamaâ??s trip abroad confirmed that he is not just a US presidential hopeful, but is considered an international hopeful to restore multiple relationships in the complexity of todayâ??s world. It behooves however the electorate of the USA to make this happen, and turn yet another important page in the global history of humankind. But in the meantime, as host of The Law in Focus, I extent a personal invitation to the general public to join me on Thursday August 28, starting at 9:30 pm, as The Law in Focus will be joining millions around the world with our own Convention Watch Party, celebrating the momentous occasion, just before Barak Obama will deliver his acceptance speech at 10:00 pm ET as the Democratic Presidential Nominee in the USA.
