GEBE technical experts attend Engineering Managers Conference
A six-member delegation from GEBE just returned from Kingston, Jamaica after attending the Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation (CARILEC) Engineering Managers Conference.
The conference theme was, "Engineering Solutions to the challenges faced by Caribbean Electric Utilities in the 21st Century," and took place at the end of July.
CARILEC is an association of electric utilities, suppliers, manufacturers and other stakeholders operating in the Caribbean. CARILEC was established in 1989 with nine members as part of an electric utilities modernization project. Today, CARILEC comprises of 91 members including GEBE.
A number of presentations were made by electric utility companies, engineering firms and other stakeholders during the three-day conference.
Some of these sessions covered, â??Combating Rising Diesel Fuel Costs â?? A Possible Solutionâ??; Interconnection of CARILEC utilities via submarine cable â?? Is it feasible?â??; â??Evaluation of Training Needs and Succession Planning for Technical Personnelâ??; â??Technology planning to maximize your investmentâ??; â??Use of numerical weather predictions and climate predictions in forecasting electricity demand and energy loadâ??; â??Pre-feasibility study of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion for Dominicaâ??; and â??Concentrated Solar Power Solutions for the 21st Centuryâ??.
The Engineers Conference is CARILECâ??s largest conference that brings together all the production and distribution engineers throughout the Caribbean to discuss and share information on technical matters.
"At GEBE we make every effort for our staff to attend various professional conferences and workshops in order for them to be kept abreast with the latest developments in their field.
"This would allow us to plan appropriately and in a strategic manner in order to further improve on the service that we provide to the community," GEBE Managing Director William Brooks stated.
