BVI wins toss elects to bat
Match two of the Leeward Islands Nagico sponsored one day tournament got off to a prompt start in Nevis. The match involving host Nevis against little rated BVI is being played at Grove Park.
A small crowd was on hand to witness the start of the game which saw BVI wqi8nning the toss and electing to bat on a pitch that favors the batsmen.
BVI is being captained by Neal Niles while Nevis captain for the match is Joel Simmons. Nevis left out Leon Powell and Oshane Williams to perform twelve and thirteenth men duties while BVI omitted Ryan Daly and Baden Walker to perform similar duties.

BVI playing their first match in the 2008 Leeward Islands Nagico sponsored One day championships opened their campaign with a relatively challenging total. The team that is little rated posted 215 all out in 49.1 overs against Leeward Islands giant Nevis.
Watched by a small crowd both teams exhibited entertaining cricket thus giving the few cricketing fans in attendance something to smile about. After a prompt 10 am start BVI won the toss and elected to bat with Lennox Samuel and Daniel Singh opened the bating.

Nevis demonstrated why they are regarded as the giants in Leeward Islands cricket when they made light work of BVI in the 2008 Leeward Islands Nagico sponsored One Day Tournament.
The match was played at Grove Park in Nevis saw a small crowd turning out to what can be described as truly entertaining and exhilarating cricket. Demonstrating their cricketing powers Nevis needing to make 216 to win the match made 218 for six in 36.5 overs to win by four wickets.
The match got off to a prompt 10 am start with BVI winning the toss and electing to bat. Lennox Samuel and Daniel Singh opened the bating as Samuel being the aggressor of the two. He quickly departed after scoring eight runs to leave the score at 10 for the loss of one wicket. Singh soon followed with the score on 14 contributing a mere couple of runs.

Samuel while being the aggressor of the two departed after scoring eight runs to leave the score at 10 for the loss of one wicket. Singh soon followed with the score on 14 contributing a mere couple of runs.
However Austin Mc Dowan was the first to reach double figures making 21 runs. He departed when the score was on 64 while Visual Bharat didnâ??t affect the score as he left without scoring.
Maxford Pite steady things a bit for BVI with 29 runs which consisted of three fours and one six. After he left Sheldon John and Dorian Auguiste quickly got to work in rebuilding the teamâ??s total with sensible and entertaining cricket.
After a 65 runs partnership John was next to go with the score on 130 making a well played 36 runs. John hit three fours and two sixes in his total while Bennisford Brown only made two runs. Kwesi Sinclair was the eight to go with the score on 193 after a half century partnership with Auguiste.
The teamâ??s captain Niles didnâ??t stay long making one run the innings ended when Auguiste was the tenth player out for a well played 79. His innings consisted of 96 balls which included eight fours and two sixes. Brenk Defretias was left not out on five.
Bowling for Nevis, Nelson Bolan had six overs no maiden one wicket for thirty three runs. Shaheend Tyson had two wickets for twenty seven runs from 7.1 overs with no maiden. Tonito Willet was the pick of the bowlers with figures of three for thirty six from nine overs which included one maiden.
His younger brother Tonito bowled seven overs which included one maiden and conceded thirty one runs with no wicket. Crevier Smithen had ten overs with no maiden and took three wickets for fifty three while Joneth Williams also had ten overs, no maiden and took one for thirty four runs.
Nevis will have to score a total of 216 runs if they are going to win this match.

His younger brother Tonito bowled 7 overs which included one maiden and conceded 31 runs with no wicket. Crevier Smithen had 10 overs with no maiden and took three wickets for 53 while Joneth Williams also had 10 overs, no maiden and took one for 34 runs.
Nevis needing 216 to win the match under great sunshine and an excellent batting wicket seemed like a lion on a desperate mission as they punished the BVI bowling hitting a number of fours and sixes.
Carlon Smithen and Carlos Adolphus opened Nevis response but quickly loss Adolphus with the score on 16 Smithen and Tonito Willett built the innings back with a 77 runs partnership before Carlon was next to go with the score on 93. He faced 41 deliveries for his total making ten fours and four sixes along the way.
Daynason Browne only mustered two runs before having his wicket taken when the score was 102 while Andra Browne who faced 39 balls consisting of four fours made 30 departed when the score was 149. Departing at 186 Captain Joel Simmons took sixteen deliveries to make 25 which included three fours and one six. After being set on 43 and with a half century in sight Tonito Willet was run out without adding any runs to the total which was 186. He faced 54 deliveries and hit three fours.
Akito Willet and Shaheend Tyson held the innings together without the loss of any further wickets. The winning runs was hit by Tyson who hit a four off Samuels to end the match at 4.55pm.
Bowling for BVI Brenk Defretias had 7 overs while he conceded 39 runs picking up one wicket along the way. Lennox Samuel had 6.5 over conceding 63 runs and picking up one wicket. Maxford Pite had 10 overs where he picked up two wickets for 41v runs. Completing the bowling line up were Visual Bharat and Sheldon John who had 10 overs capturing one wicket for 47 runs while John bowled three overs for 26 runs failing to pick up any wicket.
Action continues next weekend, July 27th with three matches in round two; the first match will see Nevis Anguilla being host to Nevis, Antigua hosting St. Kitts, Montserrat hosting the USVI and BVI playing accommodated by St Martin.
