Survey among local businesses on the effects of red tape

WILLEMSTAD/PHILIPSBURG – The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) has initiated a research study on the effects of administrative burden, known as red tape, on business performance
and economic growth in Curaçao and Sint Maarten. As part of this research, the CBCS will first, in collaboration with the Curaçao Chamber of Commerce & Industry, conduct an online survey among businesses and institutions in Curaçao.
A thousand randomly selected entities in Curaçao will receive an email from the CBCS’s Research Department on Monday, November 15, 2021, with an invitation to participate in an online survey.
The survey is offered in 3 languages and the estimated time to complete the survey is approximately 10 minutes. The CBCS would like to request the cooperation of selected entities to complete the survey before November 30, 2021. The survey is anonymous and all collected data and information
will be treated strictly confidential.
The aim of the study is to gain insight into the effects of red tape on the private sector. Specifically, the costs in terms of time and money associated with compliance to administrative procedures and regulations will be measured. The survey will include questions regarding, among other things, application for operating license, building permits, and labor permits. The CBCS will also conduct a similar survey among businesses in Sint Maarten early in 2022. The CBCS aims to publish the results
of this survey in 2022 in a report that addresses issues regarding compliance with administrative procedures in Curaçao including recommendations.
The CBCS would like to thank all the selected entities in advance for their participation in the survey.
