Collective Prevention Service (CPS), a government department within the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, will be having a booth at the St. Maarten Lions Club’s 8th Annual Lion Rudy Hoeve Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 5.
The Health & Wellness Fair is from 9.00am to 4.00pm at the Festival Village.
Section Youth Health Care, will carry out a vaccination outreach campaign at the fair in Booth #62. Parents and guardians of children from two months up to teenagers 17-years of age, are requested to bring along their child’s vaccination record/book in order to update the child’s vaccination status.
The objectives are to stimulate parents/guardians to have their child(ren) vaccinated; to bring about awareness as it relates to vaccinations and to encourage parents/guardians and the community at large to take responsibility by ensuring updated vaccination records for the children in their care.
The Sint Maarten National Vaccination Program introduced the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine for nine and 10-year old girls in September 2013. This vaccine is to prevent against cervical cancer.
Section Youth Health Care is now administering the HPV vaccine to all girls born in the years 2000, 2001 and 2002.
Immunization worldwide averts an estimated two-three million deaths every year, protecting children from diphtheria, measles, pertussis (better known as whooping cough), pneumonia, polio, rubella, tetanus and others.
Parents and guardians should use this opportunity to get information and ask questions about HPV and vaccinations overall.
