School identification card distributed to students.

The long awaited school identification cards for students attending secondary school are now being distributed by the respective schools. This student identification card project was initiated by the Community Police Officer Felix Richards. A working committee between C.P.O. Richards consisting of the managers from the various secondary schools was formed and they adopted this identification card into the school handbook. The results of the project was presented to and accepted by the then Minister of Education Mrs. Rita Bourne-Gumbs.

The student identification card will become part of the student’s uniform. Apart from that, the identification card will mainly allow the school management and authorities to better monitor the student’s activities during school hours. The identification card will also have the student’s full name, the district where he or she resides and the schools he or she attends.

Student’s from the Sint Dominic High were the first to receive there identification card followed by the P.S.V.E., Sint Maarten Academy, the M.A.C.-High and the Sint Maarten Vocational Training School. Milton Peters College which is the largest secondary school on the Dutch Side will be receiving their identification card in early January 2016.

Other projects directly connected to this project, will soon be finalized and once accepted by the respective ministries and implemented in the early part of 2016. These projects include the training of bus drivers in advance driving skills, First Aid, dress code, a code of conduct and basic training on how to deal with the students while they are being transported.

The police department wants to take this opportunity to ask all parents/guardians to encourage their children to make sure, that the student identification card is worn at all times during school hours.
