Port officials welcome Magellan on Inaugural Call

Magellan is a new cruise ship that made her inaugural call on to St. Maarten on November 21.  The cruise vessel is the new flagship of Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV).

The vessels home port is London Tilbury, United Kingdom, but in the spring Magellan will also sail from Newcastle Tyne and Dundee.

Currently, Magellan is on a 33-day cruise and Port St. Maarten was one of its port of calls.

The vessel is 46,052 gross tons and carries 1250 passengers in 726 cabins.  It is over 728 feet long; 12 decks high; has a beam of 92 feet and a draft of over 25 feet.  The vessel was built in 1985 and refitted in 2010.

Ship agents and Port St. Maarten representatives exchanged plaques with the Captain of the Magellan during a welcome ceremony onboard the vessel.

The summer program of the Magellan includes visits to Norway’s Fjordland, the British Isles, Iceland and Northern Isles, Baltic Cities & St. Petersburg and the Canary Islands & Madeira.

For the 2016/17 winter season, Magellan will feature cruises to Christmas Markets and Christmas & New Year cruise to the Canaries & Madeira.

On 5th January 2017, Magellan sets sail on her Grand Maiden Round the World Cruise visiting 43 amazing ports of call.
