Another successful year of Readers are Leaders closes

Readers are Leaders held their closing ceremonies on April 6, 2015 at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library. Now in its 5th year Readers are Leaders has grown tremendously much to the delight of its brainchild Rotarian Marcellia Henry with support from Philipsburg Jubilee Library’s staff. Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise and the Philipsburg Jubilee Library organizes Readers are Leaders every year as a way to promote literacy, specifically among high school students. Students are challenged to read at least two books per month and submit reports about the books they have read. Prizes are rewarded to the students who read and submit the most book reports.

This year’s winner Cecilia Richardson of St. Maarten Vocational Training School read an astounding 65 books. St. Maarten Academy students Arris White, Tatiana Lionel and Jaymari Tomlinson placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

This year’s prizes were donated by Klass Electronics and Boolchands who support reading and literacy development of the youth in our community. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise would like to express gratitude for their contribution. We would also like to thank Dominos whose has also been a long time supporter of the program.

Readers are Leaders program will commence once more in the new school year in September. High school students are encouraged to sign up for the program and the Readers Are Leaders board. Registration forms to do so are located at the circulation desk at the library.

Rotary Sunrise meets at Philipsburg Jubilee Library Conference Room every Tuesday mornings at 7:00am for fellowship and breakfast.  For more information on the club visit us at sxmsunrise.org or email su***************@ho*****.com, we are also on Facebook: Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise
