Minister Lake: Ministry VROMI and NV GEBE to Light Up Simpson Bay Community

Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake on Monday stated that in order to improve safety in neighbourhoods, street lights need to be placed in alleys as well as in other areas that need it.

On Monday Minister Lake, representatives from NV GEBE and Ministry VROMI carried out a site visit in Simpson Bay with respect to the placement of streetlights.

"NV GEBE and the Ministry are in the process of putting street lights in all alleys for the residents of Simpson Bay. It will improve lighting of the surrounding area and at the same time it enhances neighbourhood safety.

"In my back to basics approach, safety is a cornerstone. If the people in your community do not feel safe, it is the responsibility of Government to ensure that this changes. Simpson Bay is lighting up.

"The young people of the Simpson Bay community are also assisting in their district with respect to road markings and will also soon be looking into providing proper sidewalks.

"It’s the small things that count to people and that is what the back to basics approach is all about. Our communities, districts and villages are where we live with our families and elders. The seniors, children and others living in the community should have a safe environment to enjoy together with all the modern facets and this is what I am aiming to do in every district, every community and every village, it’s all about back to basics," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Monday.

The project starts from the Sister Clara Drive #1 in Simpson Bay and includes the other eight alleys of the community.
