Minister Lake says a win-win being worked on for the purchasing of the Emilio Wilson Estate by Gov

Lake fully behind purchasing of estate

On Thursday Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake said he is working closely with the Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Hon. Ted Richardson and Minister of Finance Hon. Martin Hassink and other stakeholders to find a win-win for the purchasing of part of the Emilio Wilson Estate.

Minister Lake said in his back to basics approach, he is fully behind Government taking over the estate which can then be enjoyed by the people of the country and visitors.

Minister Lake added that Government has been in communication with the owners of the estate in finding a solution.

"The first plan presented by the former Minster of VROMI Theo Heyliger a few years ago was the best way to go because the estate would have been maintained in a proper professional manner, and various family activities would have been organized for the benefit of the people and visitors. The estate is great for horse-back riding and many other family related activities.

"The first plan was thrown out due to petty politics when Government fell in 2012. We need to get away from petty politics because that will destroy us. Our focus must be on the bigger picture.

"Government is working diligently on different alternatives in order to finance the purchasing of part of the estate. A section of the estate is reserved and to be developed by a part owner/developer.

"The Government’s current financial situation presents challenges and the purchasing of the estate could not be included in the draft 2014 budget. However, we need to move forward in the best interests of the people.

"The outgoing National Alliance Government was irresponsible knowing Government had no money to purchase the estate. The 2013 budget was not even approved when they made an agreement. The former Minister of VROMI was irresponsible to make such knowing there was no approved budget.

"Since the 2013 budget was approved, there is still no money to purchase the estate, but Government is committed to the people in finding a win-win solution. Thank God for the harbour group of companies showing interests in the estate and stepping up to the plate. I am confident that we will overcome this challenge.

"We need to hold past Ministers accountable for their actions, poor decision-making and bad management practices in putting the country and the people in this predicament," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Thursday.
