Salute to ’un palu di muhe’

I respectfully salute Her Excellency Governor of Curacao, Mrs. Lucille George-Wout. When the news broke that Her Excellency was the top candidate for the job, I was very happy.

Many years ago, in my former capacity as WICSU president, I had the privilege to work with Mrs. George-Wout on many occasions. The broadcast out of Curacao’s Z-86, she was amply described by the reporter, as the woman that I met years ago. Now Governor represented the Government of Curacao well, she was also very respectful of the role that Unions had to play in defense of and in representation of its members and would never antagonize the Unions.

Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout is now on record for breaking the proverbial glass ceiling by becoming the first woman Governor within the Dutch Caribbean. Congratulations.

What is very impressive in my opinion is that the vast majority of Curacao’s political parties showed great political maturity as they unanimously supported the then nomination and now her appointment as Governor of the Island of Curacao.

Much respect Her Excellency!
