Minister Lake meets with Taxi Association and offers assistance

Minister Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Minister Hon. Maurice Lake recently met with a Taxi Association as they prepare for the upcoming tourist season.

Minister Lake said that his Ministry is busy reviewing the request and suggestions and a plan of action will be drafted to deal with the issues that can be handled post haste.

The Sint Maarten Police Force has a Task Force in place also preparing for the upcoming high tourist season and some of the issues fall under the responsibility of the aforementioned law enforcement agency.

One of the suggestions from the Taxi Association is making Front Street more user friendly to the disabled.

Other matters discussed were taxi stands; additional traffic signs and road markings; additional pedestrian crossings in Simpson Bay; designated drop off and pick up points at small hotels.

The taxi representatives have also requested a taxi stand in the Simpson Bay area.

“The meeting was very constructive and I am looking into the various points that fall within the confines of Ministry VROMI. A plan of action will be drafted to immediately deal with these matters of concern to our taxi drivers, our ambassadors,” Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Friday.
