UP Leader Heyliger calls on President ofParliament to do the honourable thing and resign

President of Parliament should do the honourable thing and resign

The President of Parliament Rodolphe Samuel should do the honourable thing and give back the people’s Parliament. There is a new majority in parliament and he is wilfully obstructing the business of parliament. Let democracy prevail as described in the Constitution of Sint Maarten and stop holding Parliament hostage.

The acts of the President during the past two public sessions of the House of Parliament demonstrate that the President is in contempt of the peoples House. The tyrannical behaviour speaks for itself. In countries with a broken system, no respect for the rule of law, you find tyranny. You don’t expect to see this type of behaviour on Sint Maarten.

President Samuel indicated on Sunday that he would tender his resignation, however on Monday he withdrew this notion. By doing so, he has lost all credibility to function in the post he holds and where he was given the opportunity by the majority to sit in on behalf of the people of this country.

The President of Parliament should look at the message that he is sending to the young people of our country, and what example he is setting by defying the people’s representatives in the manner that he has done.

The performance of the President of Parliament Samuel is tarnishing the image of the people, the country, and the House of Parliament within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the region and the world.

Do the right thing President Samuel, respect the wishes of the majority of parliament, the highest legislative body of the people of our country.
