Council of Minister Meets with Dutch Second Chamber

The Council of Ministers met with the Dutch Delegation of the First Chamber of Parliament on Friday, the 11th of January. The main points of discussion were the experiences of St. Maarten as a Country as well as the relationship with Saba and St. Eustatius, which due to the constitutional changes since 10-10-10 has changed on all of the islands of the former Netherlands Antilles.

Also, several points of concerns were raised during the ‘Meet and Greet’ with residents and representatives of various organizations on St. Maarten were brought forward. The challenges that St. Maarten faces as a young country in setting up the required democratic institutions, in establishing membership of various international organizations to strengthen national and international relationships as well as on the financial level were topics of discussion. Both parties agreed that direct talks on a political level should continue.
