Prime Minister at Voice of Our Children Calendar Launch

"We Have Approved the Draft Changes of the Civil Code With Regards to the Rights of the Child; there will be far reaching changes.

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams joined Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs the Hon. Silveria Jacobs and Member of Parliament the Hon. Sylveria Meyers in receiving the new Voice of Our Children Calendar. The PM congratulated the Voice of Our Children Foundation with the timely launch of the 2013 Rights of our Child Calendar organized by the Voice Of Our Children Foundation; "I want to congratulate all of you for the initiative to present the calendar. It is quite appropriate that as you focus on the rights of the children you have thought on a good way to bring the message across to the community of St. Maarten and that the message will stay in the mind of both children and adults. Coincidently in the Council of Minister’s meeting we approved the final draft of the changes of the Civil Code that has to do with children, parents and parenthood. There will be far reaching changes to the civil code which means that the communicating of these changes to the community is one of our biggest tasks, and what the VOOC has done is definitely part of this. We will go out and let the people of St. Maarten know what is occurring as we catch up with international standards and norms. I applaud you for making the rights of the child at the forefront of the National Agenda," concluded the Prime Minister.
