SXM Trails Walkathon Deem a Great Success

Despite the heavy downed-pour of rain early Sunday morning over 250 walkers turned out for the second annual St Martin Trails unity walk-a-thon, said Juste Manuel, president of the association.

 

A number of St. Martin/St. Maarten personalities and organizations participated in walk, including the honorable Prime Minister Mrs. Sarah Wescott-Williams, Jacques ‘Billy D.’ Hamlet of SOS Radio, Shujah Reiph of the Conscious Lyrics Foundation, St. Maarten Road Runners, Mrs. Dilys Alphonso of the Positive Foundation, Mr. Marcel Javois and his team, Mrs. Jadira Veen of St. Maarten Pride Foundation Mrs. Gianne Deweever with the students from St Dominic High School.

The 10 km trek started at the Festival Village Philipsburg to the Home and Tool’s parking lot in Bellevue Marigot. Where the participants were served a Caribbean breakfast of bushtea, saltfish, Johnny cake and eggs. The hiking club congratulated all the walkers who completed the 10 km, and also raffled 19 donated prizes.

"The annual walk-a-thon would not have been possible without the contribution of various sponsors," said Manual. "The proceeds raised from this fundraising event will go towards making the existing trails more passable and well marked on both sides of the island for the enjoyment of everyone," concluded Manuel.
