Prime Minister to Athletes at Opening of Be Able Wheelchair Tennis Tournament

"You are an Inspiration to all St. Maarteners"

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams gave her opening remarks at the start of the Wheelchair Tennis Tournament at the Princess Port de Plaisance Health Club on Monday highlighting the inspiration the athletes give to not only persons living with disabilities but also to the community of St. Maarten in General. The Tournament features world famous wheelchair athletes including the top ranked competitors in the world.

 

"We thank you for traveling to St. Maarten and although we were dancing behind the drum band on Saturday today I look forward to an exciting and competitive international tournament. Thank you also for being an inspiration to not only the physically challenged in our country but to all St. Maarteners; how you overcame your disability and became an internationally recognized athlete is an inspiration to all and you are an example to those who need the extra inspiration to go that extra mile to those disabled living on the island to reach their full potential," stated the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also commended the Be Able Committee of Top Promotions Foundation for organizing a week that will do so much in bringing awareness to those living with disabilities in the community and participated in the opening march of the disabled week.

The PM also specially mentioned the positive spinoff the event will have for the disabled persons in the community of St. Maarten who had the opportunity to experience the strength and special talents many disabled persons possess, as the wheelchair tennis participants demonstrated during the international tournament which was held on St. Maarten on Saturday.
