Prime Minister, Airport Management and Fire Department Meet on Various Topics

Location of Possible Fire Department for the Cole Bay/ Simpson Bay Area Discussed

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams met with Fire Department Chief Winston Salomon, Head of Disaster Management Paul Martens and Director of the Princess Juliana International Airport Ms. Regina Labega and two of her advisors on matters regarding the services of the Fire Department in the Cole Bay/ Simpson Bay area and at the Princess Juliana International Airport.

The meeting was centered on the on-going plans of the National Fire Department and the Fire Department at the Princess Juliana International Airport with regards to fire fighting and rescue services provided both to the communities of Cole Bay and Simpson Bay as well as at the Airport.

The Prime Minister stated that the National Fire Department has been seeking a location in the Cole Bay/ Simpson Bay area in order to provide a better service to the community. The PM also explained that although the building that houses the Fire Department at the Princess Juliana International Airport belongs to Government, Airport authorities are also seeking to move the Airport Fire Department from its current location. "Given these two endeavors it is apparent that the Airport and Government can work together to achieve both of our common goals in an efficient and effective way without compromising the needs and conditions of both parties. How to achieve such was the topic of discussion and the technocrats will now further work out some scenarios for approval by both parties," commented Prime Minister Wescot-Williams. The Prime Minister is responsible for Disaster Management, under which the National Fire Department falls.
