Minister Jacobs commends Marci for promoting boxing among nation’s youth

World Boxing Organization (WBO) has established the Kids Drug Free program and encourages it worldwide. St. Maarten has taken the first step in executing this program in conjunction with Marci Of Marcy’s Megagym in promoting boxing among our youth and keeping them off our streets and off drugs.

St. Maarten’s own boxing icon, Jacinth Bryan-Labega President of the St. Maarten Boxing Association and WBO 2nd Vice President, thanked Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs, for supporting this initiative and awarded certificates and gifts to the youth athletes.

The Minister commended Bryan-Labega for her contributions and pledged support for the rebuilding of the sport on the island. She further stressed that we should recognize the great contribution that someone like Bryan-Labega can bring to the sport locally seeing her international connections to WBO.

The minister also encouraged parents and youth athletes to keep on working towards the achievement of their goals and dreams.

Minister Jacobs and Marci of Marci’s Megagym also squared off in a one minute round of punches, jabs and flurries as parents and students cheered. The Minister was happy to take part in the demo in an effort to encourage more students to choose sports over drugs.
