Parliament President Samuel Congratulates Nation on 2nd Anniversary of Country Status

President of Parliament Hon. Drs. Rodolphe Samuel would like to congratulate the nation on its 2nd Anniversary of country status.

Samuel said that 10-10-10 represented a turning point and was a new beginning for our nation. He added that nation building was a process which would not be completed in a year or two, but it was a process that would encompass the generations of Sint Maarteners.

 

The Parliament of Sint Maarten and the Government under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs, have joined to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of country status in connection with Constitution Day 2012.

A solemn plenary session of parliament to mark the second anniversary of the attainment of country status, will take place on October 10.

The theme is: Building a Nation of Courageous and Determined People."

The solemn session will take place on Wednesday morning at 10.00am in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament at Wilhelmina Straat #1 in Philipsburg.

Faction leaders will speak for approximately 10 minutes. Members of the Council of Ministers as well as guest speakers, President of the Chamber of Labour Unions T. Thompson, and Chamber of Commerce and Industry President A. Bute will also have the floor.

Government officials along with civil servants will attend an ecumenical service at the Saint Simon and Jude Anglican Church on Backstreet, Philipsburg at 8.30am.

After the church service, dignitaries will attend the solemn session of parliament.

A cultural celebration is planned at the Clem Labega Square at 6.00pm and the general public is invited to attend.
