Man shot in face during robbery

On Friday October 5th at approximately 12.55 a.m. a call came into the Police Central Dispatch informing them of a shooting incident that took place on Back street in the vicinity of house number 183.

 

Immediately after receiving this call several police patrols were directed to the location mentioned to investigate what had taken place. On the scene the patrols were informed that the victim had already been transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center by private vehicle. The area was immediately closed to protect the evidence on the scene. According to a witness on the scene the victim had just left a bar in the neighborhood on his way home. Shortly after, he (the witness) saw the victim being chased through the alley leading to the bar by an unknown person. At the same time shots were fired and directly after saw the victim lying on the ground in Back street. The victim was bleeding from a wound to one of his eyes. The suspect in the meanwhile had already fled the scene. At the hospital the victim stated that he was attacked by an unknown man who pulled a gun. The victim resisted and tried to run away, but was chased by the suspect and shot in his face at which time the victim fell to the ground. He was then robbed of his gold necklace. The wound to the victims face is quite serious and he is admitted to the hospital for further treatment and observation. The Forensic Department and Detective Department went to the scene to carry out an investigation which at this time is ongoing. As more information becomes available the media will be informed.
