New Year For Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club

A new Toastmasters year is in full swing and so is the Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club. Toastmasters is an international organization that offers a program of communication and leadership projects to help members learn the art of speaking, listening, and thinking.

On St. Maarten there are 5 Toastmasters clubs, of which the Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club is one for Civil Servants of the Government of St. Maarten. Soualiga Corporate Club Held its second exciting meeting last week, The Dr. Suess theme "You are you, that is truer than true" inspired very intriguing, emotional, humorous and informative speeches by new and experienced speakers.

Evaluations were based on evaluation techniques introduced during a recent workshop organized by the Area Governor Leona Romeo Marlin. The highlight of the club meeting was the table topic segment which turned the meeting place into a court room. Toastmasters took on the roles of plaintiff, defendant and judge to determine whether Batman or Catwoman was responsible for the supposed theft of milk and some fruit. This exercise forced Toastmasters to think on their feet and practice careful listening, consequently producing a very entertaining discussion.

The new board, in the persons of Linette Gibs (President), Danaƫ Daal (VP Education), Harriet Rogers (Secretary), Sharine Romeo (Treasurer), Denise Vijber (VP Public Relations), Swinda Richardson (VP Membership) and Alexandra den Ouden (Sergeant at Arms),

promises a year filled with innovative, fun and educational meetings and activities.

The Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 5.15 pm at the Claude Wathey Legislative Hall. All are invited to attend.
