Minister Jacobs presents Domino winners their trophies

Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs had the honor to present the winning trophies to the winners of the 2nd Annual St. Maarten Federation Domino Championships as well as to offer a few words to the participants of the tournament in a ceremony at the Flanders Bar in Suckergarden on Sunday evening.

The Country Boys maintained the title of Champions winning a trophy, cash prizes and the right to represent St. Maarten in international competition.

In 2nd place was the Super Square team winning a trophy and cash prizes as well. Team Regulators placed third, and the Undertakers placed fourth. Each team received a plaque for participation from the organizers.

As dominoes is a cultural past time as well as a recognized competitive sport, Minister Jacobs pledged her support to seeing the tradition continued with the help of the teams and patrons of this sport.

"… only the people can truly pass on our culture to the people…. So play dominoes at home, at school and throughout the community… And this part of our culture will surely never be lost," Minister Silveria Jacobs is quoted as saying to the gathering.
