Prime Minister Attends Grandparents Day Celebration

"Recognizing how much our elderly grandparents and others can share with St. Maarten through their children and grandchildren we need to cherish them, respect them and hold them dear"

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams attended the Home Away From Home Foundation’s Grandparents Day Celebration on Sunday. The celebration was held in order to recognize the importance and the appreciation of grandparents to the community.

The Prime Minister stated in her remarks that she wanted to congratulate the Home Away From Home Foundation for organizing the International Day for Grandparents Celebration on St. Maarten; "This celebration has been observed for many years and has been declared by the United States as official Grandparents Day since 1968. It is usually held on the first Sunday after Labor Day in September so St. Maarten is celebrating this special day along with several other countries that observe use this day to celebrate the very special people our grandparents are," commented the PM.

The Prime Minister continued by stating that regardless as to when the day is observed on St. Maarten "the most important part of it is that we are recognize grandparents, grandchildren and children and what they should mean and can mean to one another. So to see how well the turnout is tonight as well as the numerous youngsters that are here I think is very commendable. Recognizing how much our elderly grandparents and others can share with St. Maarten through their children and grandchildren we need to cherish them, respect them and hold them dear," concluded the Prime Minister.
