Prime Minister Encourages Civil Servants to Sign up for U 2 Can Move Campaign

Six Kilometer and Three Kilometer Walk on Friday, Zumba Classes start September 5th

The Prime Minister over the weekend again encouraged all civil servants to sign up for the physical fitness campaign specially for civil servants entitled U 2 Can Move! The program will kick-off on Friday with the Soualiga K6 and K3 challenge, a walk or run of six or three kilometers around the Great Salt Pond.

On September 5th the Prime Minister will also be launching a Zumba Campaign for Civil Servants. Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s and involves dance and aerobic elements incorporating hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves.

The Prime Minister said the events are a part of a larger fitness campaign where she encourages Civil Servants to take their health and fitness seriously. "There is much we can do for ourselves as individuals and as a country as far as good health is concerned. Information, diet and exercise are the basic ABC’s and are valuable in any situation. I want to encourage our health institutions, practitioners and NGO’s in this field to focus on educating our community on aspects of health and I call on all, especially our women, to take responsibility for their health, regular check-ups, and to heed warning signs such as aches and pains," the prime minister said. These two events are no different and I encourage Civil Servants to get up and move and be active," commented the Prime Minister. The Soualiga K6 and K3 challenge will start at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Government Administration Building.
