Minister Jacobs extends condolences on the passing of Camille Baly – Cultural Icon

On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, Minister Hon. Silveria Jacobs, extends sincerest condolences to the family and close friends of Camille Baly on his passing.

 

With Baly’s passing, St. Maarten mourns another great Cultural and Education Icon. Baly was known as an educator par excellence, collector of St. Maarten’s History and a guardian of the cultural aspects of St. Maarten.

The former head of the Education department as well as Youth and Cultural affairs remained an avid Cultural and Education activist until his passing. He also served as an advisor to many government officials up until his passing.

The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports honored Baly during the historic Emancipation Day celebrations held on July 2nd, 2012.

Baly was honored during this Cultural Manifestation for his pioneering work which leads to St. Maarten being able to commemorate this day as a National Holiday.

"The Ministry is eternally grateful that we were able to honor Baly for his immeasurable contribution to developing Country St. Maarten". On a personal note the Minister made the following statement about the passing of her mentor: "Mr. Baly’s insight and advice will be greatly missed."
