School bus owners and drivers have second opportunity to have busses inspected; August 06 – 08

School Bussing and Taxi Dispatching Inspection Department of Economic Affairs Head Martha Thewet says less than 50 per cent of school busses were inspected last week.

Thewet says the driver’s had ample time to contact the department to make arrangements for inspections.  “School busses that are not inspected will not be allowed to transport school children on August 13 the start of the 2012-2013 new school year on behalf of the Government.

“They will be in violation of the law, and they won’t be paid as well.  They will be in violation of the no-show fail policy.  Anyone who doesn’t show for inspection will automatically fail the inspection, and every school bus owner and driver are aware of the aforementioned,” Thewet said on Sunday.

The department has extended the inspection period starting Monday, August 06 to Wednesday August 08.  Bus owners and drivers are hereby requested to make use of this final inspection period or face sanctions.

School bus owners/drivers are requested to call the department to make an appointment.  Inspections will take place between 8.30am – 12.00pm and 1.30pm – 3.00pm.

Thewet added that the department will not compromise the safety of the school children and that of other road users.
