The St. Maarten Nature Foundation recorded its first successful hatching of Leatherback Sea Turtles for the 2012 nesting season.
Staff of the Nature Foundation excavated the Sea Turtle nest on Gibbs Bay together with participants of the Nature Foundation Youth Program Snorkel Club. Eighty percent of all hatchlings were successful. There are five other nests on Guana Bay and Gibbs Bay which the Nature Foundation is currently monitoring.
