The delegation was headed by Deputy Fire Chief John Gatlin from the Tallahassee City Fire Department. It also included representatives from Public Safety, Law enforcement, Government environmental engineering, Medical and Private sector business.

The meeting with the Chamber of Commerce & Industry executives and Tallahassee reps looked at fostering economic development between Tallahassee and Sint Maarten based on the sister-city agreement that has existed for more than a decade.

The meeting with the Chamber of Commerce & Industry according to Lugisse was very fruitful. "Both parties looked at the vast opportunities that exist based on the sister-city agreement for the public and private sectors. One of the areas discussed is exchange programs between law enforcement agencies on the island with the Tallahassee Sheriff and Fire Departments.

"Orientation and training sessions can be organized up to four weeks. There are joint venture opportunities for the private sector especially working closely with the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. The City of Tallahassee also has sister-city links with Europe, Russia, Africa and the Middle East. There are great possibilities and opportunities and it is now for us to make use of them as presented in the framework of the city-sister agreement," Executive Director Arhur Lugisse said.

Some reps of the Tallahassee delegation are also members of the annual festival Springtime Tallahassee, which attracts over 200,000 persons over the two-day event that takes place at the end of March.
