Every year during the carnival period many scaffoldings and stages are constructed or flatbeds are placed/ parked along the route the parades. The number of scaffoldings or temporary structures has increased over the past years and that amount is expected to increase even more this year.
For many years the placing or constructing of scaffolding along the route of the parades has been allowed without the required permits. This is definitely in violation with the stipulations in the “Algemene Politie Keur”. There are persons and organizations that place these types of structures along the route of the parade and who on a yearly basis request and receive the necessary permit or permits to do so. These permit holders pay for the required fees to get their permit(s) and these scaffoldings or temporary structures are inspected by the Safety Inspection of “VROMI”. The inspection is based mainly on the reliability of the construction. From a safety point of view it would not be wise to have any scaffolding or any other type of structure along the route of the parades if it does undergo the stipulated Government safety inspection.
Therefore this year, in the interest of maintaining public order and safety, the protection of persons and property, placing or constructing of scaffolding or any other type structure along the route of the parades will require a permit from the Ministry of Justice. Any structures placed or constructed without the necessary permits will have to be removed. The opportunity to request a permit is still available.
