Prime Minister Hon. Sarah Wescot Williams on Wednesday met with the members of the Asset and Liability Committee. Sint Maarten’s representative is Jean James.
The Committee is responsible for the division of assets and liabilities of the former Netherlands Antilles. The committee has been active since March of 2006.
The prime minister was apprised of the work to date by the Committee as well as about some critical issues they are facing.
Some of the pending matters relating to the work of the Committee include registration of unmovable properties on Sint Maarten in the name of Sint Maarten. Also pending, is the finalization of claims by civil servants of the former Netherlands Antilles. The anticipation is that rounding off this process in its totality will take quite some time.
